ROCK AND ROLL WILDMAN ANDREW W.K. IS FIRST CONFIRMED GUEST, MANY MORE TO FOLLOW

Even as they move to annihilate the city of Austin at this years SXSW music festival, Antarctic beast-lords GWAR are setting their sights on an event that is destined to go down as one of the most insane experiences in their long and obtuse career. The CRACK-A-THON is on!

GWAR is staging their first CRACK-A-THON April 16th and 17th at the MF Gallery in Brooklyn, NY. Starting at 7:00 pm on April 16th, Oderus, joined by his co-host and band mate, Balsac the Jaws of Death, will star in GWAR’s very own variety show which will be broadcast free of charge to anybody with an internet connection. In the tradition of “The Carol Burnett Show” or the Jerry Lewis MS telethon, Oderus will attempt to entertain and milk the viewing audience for every penny they have while presenting an assortment of guests that glitteringly represent the sub-middle-upper-lower strata of entertainments elite!

Today GWAR announced the first confirmed guest on the program, Oderus’ Red Eye buddy and confirmed nose-bleeder, Andrew W.K. who will be performing live. Andrew W.K. is stoked about his upcoming appearance on the CRACK-A-THON, “I am very excited to have an intimate experience with Oderus. I’ve admired his physique for so long, and now I finally get to see it up close… very up close.”

Lead singer of GWAR and CRACK-A-THON host Oderus Urungus is known for sharing his crack.

Deep within the bowels of the Earth, preparations for GWAR’s first fund-raising drive have reached a fever pitch. As guests are lined up, sets are constructed, and scripts have bongwater spilled all over them, Oderus had this to say…

“I didn’t realize that so much work would be involved, and that sucks…I thought I would just kinda show up and get high. But I am undaunted by the complexity of the task as I just hired a bunch of other people to do it for me!”

This star-choked assault marks Oderus’ last-ditch attempt to raise funds in order to pay off his considerable crack-debt, owed to GWAR manager and underworld tyrant, Sleazy P. Martini, who had the following to say about the matter:
“Oderus’ crack debt makes the U.S. federal deficit look like fucking lunch money. If he wants to continue to “hook-up on the cook-up” then I need to see some cash.”

He continued: “If Oderus is unable to “lock- up on the rock-up” he gets violent, nasty, and confused, even more so than normal. So giving money to Oderus for crack isn’t just a nice thing to do, it’s also saving the human race from annihilation! So if the human race wants to survive they need to pony up.”

At this point Urkel has yet to confirm.

DARKEST HOUR ANNOUNCES SPRING TOUR DATES INCLUDING APPEARANCE AT FULL METAL TEXAS AT SXSW

Washington, DC-based DARKEST HOUR have some amazing things lined up for 2010. They will be going out on tour with Dillinger Escape Plan, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, and Animals as Leaders. The tour starts March 11th in New York, NY and wraps up on April 13th in Pomona, CA. The tour will be making a stop in Austin, TX at the SXSW music festival, where the Darkest Hour guys will be performing at the Full Metal Texas Event with Iron Age, Born of Osiris, Upon a Burning Body, Your Demise and many others on March 18th.

DARKEST HOUR have also announced a headlining show with Periphery providing direct support. The show will take place on April 14th, in Mesa, AZ. After a couple days off DARKEST HOUR will be heading to Ohio on April 18th to play at a house party for the grand prize winner of last year’s ETERNAL GIVEAWAY contest.

Mudvayne’s NEW VIDEO FOR SECOND SINGLE “BEAUTIFUL AND STRANGE”
BANNED FOR EXPLICIT IMAGERY

Hailed for their musical prowess, hardcore riffs, and dominating stage show; Mudvayne continues to push the envelope with the video for their second single “Beautiful and Strange” off their self-titled album. “Beautiful and Strange” is directed by Frankie Nasso (ALL THAT REMAINS, HATEBREED, EMMURE, BRIAN “HEAD” WELCH) and is the latest installment of three conceptually linked videos that were filmed to promote the band’s self-titled album. “Scream With Me”, the first single off the album saw great success becoming #2 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Chart.

With the release of the video for “Beautiful and Strange” came the unwillingness of networks, and media sources to play the video due to its disturbing and thought provoking imagery that is meant for mature audiences. The video contains sexually explicit acts that take place in a graveyard and some scenes that involve acts of sadism that is part of a storyline that is linked to the other two videos. The exact definition of the video is left to interpretation and flows beautifully with the other two videos that complete the concept. It has been banned from every outlet except for one; the only place where this video can be seen is on the social networking site vampirefreaks.com.

Mudvayne has been praised for changing the landscape of metal music through their songwriting and now they continue to broaden that landscape with their provocative new video for “Beautiful and Strange”. The song is extremely dynamic and is an example of the bands technical abilities as musicians. The release of the third and final video “Heard It All Before” is set to premiere next month.

Formed in 1996, the Illinois-based band has been a staple in the music industry and the metal world for close to 15 years. With their willingness to constantly push the envelope, and with their ability to change other people’s perspectives on what metal should be, Mudvayne continues to amaze everyone in the world of music. Mark Morton of Examiner.com reported that during Sunday night’s (February 21) women’s curling match between USA and Sweden, Swedish melodic metallers HAMMERFALL became the unlikely topic of discussion on CNBC television.

At 11:22 p.m. ET, in the beginning of the sixth end, Colleen Jones was commenting on how much she enjoyed the curling montage of various teams screaming when Andrew Catalon piped in, and the following conversation ensued.

Andrew: “If you really want to see something fascinating, I suggest you go to YouTube, and type in ‘Hearts on Fire’ and ‘curling,’ because just prior to the 2006 Winter Olympics, Anette’s [Norberg] team was featured in a rock video for this Swedish heavy metal band HAMMERFALL. The song is “Hearts on Fire”. The team takes on the band in a curling game, and then the curlers — this team — starts singing while they’re sweeping! So that is a must-see video! I’ve watched it!”

Colleen: “Is there a future for them as rock stars? They’re already rock stars, but could they be other rock stars?”

Andrew: “Well, it turned out to be a good luck charm; they went on to win a gold medal!”

Colleen: “Yeah, I was asking Anette the other day, ‘Hey, any more rock videos for you?’ Nope, they haven’t had any more offers since then.”

Andrew: “Going out on top, obviously.”

Eva Lund of the Swedish curling team told Reuters in a February 2006 interview, “We loved [taking part in the video] and it gave us energy. The HAMMERFALL band was fantastic and they are cheering for us and writing e-mails to us when we are here,” she said after Sweden beat Norway 5-4.

In the video, which can be viewed below, the team arrives for a match in a dingy rink to be confronted by their opponents: a wild-haired, leather-clad heavy metal band with dubious curling skills.

The women sweep to victory — aided by an on-ice drum kit — but not before they have morphed into leather and chain-clad singers themselves.

“Hearts On Fire” comes off HAMMERFALL’s 2002 album, Crimson Thunder. The track was reissued as a single in Sweden in January 2006 to give a “boost” to the team as they prepared for the Winter Olympics in Turin.

“The video was a blast to record, an attitude shared by everyone involved. The result is an amusing and, for us, a little unusual video,” stated HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak at the time.

HAMMERFALL reached a career-crowning achievement this past March of 2009 when No Sacrifice, No Victory attained Gold status in their home country – debuting at #2 on the Swedish album charts and remained in the Top 10 for four weeks. The band topped the charts in many other European countries as well: Germany #7; Greece #10, Switzerland #20; England #21; Austria #25; Czech Republic #33; Norway #46; Belgium #87; France #95.

DRUMMER CHRIS ADLER NOMINATED FOR BEST DRUMMER; BAND NOMINATED IN BEST LIVE BAND CATEGORY

The 2010 Revolver Golden God Awards have announced their nominees and Richmond, VA metallers LAMB OF GOD have been nominated in two categories. The band has been nominated for best live band alongside The Devil Wears Prada, Metallica, Motorhead, Rob Zombie and Slayer. In addition to the best live band nomination, LAMB OF GOD drummer Chris Adler is up for an award in the best drummer category alongside metal’s finest drummers including: Brann Dailor (Mastodon), Dave Grohl (Them Crooked Vultures), Gene Hoglan (Dethklok, Fear Factory), Dave Lombardo (Slayer), and Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan (Avenged Sevenfold)

Drummer Chris Adler had the following to say about his nomination in the best drummer category as well as the band’s nomination in the best live band category, “I’m incredibly flattered to have my contributions within the band nominated. I’ve tried very hard to create a unique voice within the band with my drums and to share this with several of the world’s best drummers is an incredible honor. I think all the nominees are deserving and I’m lucky to be included.

Two years ago the band won a Golden God award in the UK for best live band and to have the same nomination at home feels very good. We’ve worked very hard to make sure our shows never disappoint, and to have our work recognized is very satisfying. Win or lose, we’re in great company.”
This year, hosting duties for the Golden Gods will be shared between musician, activist, and entrepreneur Andrew W.K. and lead singer of Fozzy, professional WWE wrestling superstar, actor, and author Chris Jericho.

Drummer Andols Herrick of Cleveland, Ohio metallers CHIMAIRA will be testing out teaching drum lessons via Skype over the next two weeks, and again after the band’s upcoming tour in the U.K. with TRIVIUM. This is a chance for beginner-to-intermediate-level drummers all over the world to work one-on-one with Andols from wherever is convenient for you!

The lessons will be similar to the in-person ones done in Cleveland — usually split between focusing on hands and focusing on the whole kit (or just kick drum pads, if noise is a problem). As long as you have either a webcam or a built-in one on your laptop, all you have to do is download Skype and the video to video interaction doesn’t cost anything.
